LOGAN'S RUN is now over thirty years old. Released in 1976, the film was recently forced to enter the "Carousel", to experience a rebirth.
That rebirth is now the LOGAN'S RUN Blu-Ray.
Set in 2274, Michael York plays Logan 5, whose job it is to terminate those that try to flee from society upon nearing their 30th birthday. But when he finds out he is about to turn thirty, he must flee himself, with Jenny Agutter. Farrah Fawcett-Majors, Roscoe Lee Browne and Peter Ustinov also appear.
When the film was released, it was in the pre-STAR WARS style of science fiction. The look of the film is one of its biggest assets. Today, the sets look a lot like Walt Disney World's Tomorrowland. That isn't a complaint, why isn't more architecture like that?
I seem to remember the short lived 1977 TV series more. The film, while it has its moments, is never quite up to its potential. But this won't be a problem to those fans who grew up watching and rewatching the film.
The Blu-Ray is very nice. It does show a bit of wear, but is quite colorful.
WHAT IS ON THE BLU-RAY?
Released on DVD several times in the past, the Blu-Ray keeps the same extras from the previous releases.
There is an audio commentary with star Michael York, director Michael Anderson, and costume designer Bill Thomas.
A LOOK INTO THE 23rd CENTURY (9:18) - A very interesting 1976 featurette on the making of the film, featuring a behind the scenes look at the filming with interviews with the cast and crew on set.
IS IT WORTH BUYING?
Looking the best it ever has, LOGAN'S RUN is worth picking up.
LOGAN'S RUN will be available on Blu-Ray November 10, 2009 from Warner Home Video.
