Here are the DVDs being released Tuesday, December 2, 2008.
SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE: SEASON 4 - Every episode from the 1978 to 1979 season.
WHITE DOG - Criterion release of the Sam Fuller film, never before released on video, or even theatrically. It has only aired on cable TV over the years. Kristy McNichol stars.
CHRONICLES OF NARNIA - PRINCE CASPIAN - The second film based on the C.S. Lewis series. You can read my review of the excellent DVD here.
WANTED - Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy star in this action film that wasn’t quite as good as it should have been.
STEP BROTHERS - Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly in a comedy that was probably funnier than audiences thought it was.
THE X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE - Did anyone see this? Proof that people won’t see something theatrically so long after the show is off the year.
THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL - 2 DVD special edition of the classic sci-fi film, to tie in with the upcoming remake.
FLY ME TO THE MOON - The bugs in space animated film.
THE MAN CALLED FLINSTONE and HEY THERE, IT’S YOGI BEAR - Releasing individually are these feature films based on the cartoons.

Is "Europa" released by Criterion this week or next? I pre-ordered on Amazon, but forgot the date. I love that movie but haven't seen it since I saw on big screen the first time around.
Also, I'm excited Criterion is releasing my very fav Sirk film-"Magnificent Obsession"-in January. They are also pairing it with the original 30's version with Irene Dunne.
EUROPA is next week. And I read about that MAGNIFICENT OBSESSION set. Looks to be quite good. I've yet to really get into Sirk. Maybe it is time to try again.
I basically like how neurotic & claustrophobic the Sirk films are. I can't imagine living in the hellish nightmare Sirk makes the 50's to be. At the same time the color, clothes & film style of the Sirk films are just so amazing. Of his major films, MAGNIFICENT OBSESSION used to be considered the least, but I actually like it best-it takes the word "neurotic" to new levels. Amidst all the wild melodrama, Jane Wyman still manages to look amazing in her cool 50's glasses & outfits & gives an excellent, Oscar nominated performance. Noen of the "nice people" in the world of the film are very warm. to me, it's just truly surreal (as are all the better Sirk films. He was also the main influence on Fassbinder.
