Live Blogging the 2008 Emmys

Welcome to the Moviezzz Blog liveblogging of the 2008 Emmys!

The comment section is open if you have anything to add. Keep hitting refresh for updates.

Thanks for stopping by.

7:02 PM: Watching the E! Channel, Ryan Seacrest interviewing Patrick Dempsey. Will they ask him about CAN'T BUY ME LOVE?...No they didn't.

7:05 PM: Ricky Gervais is being interviewed. Sadly his film didn't do too well over the weekend (review to be posted tomorrow). Why isn't he bigger here?

7:08 PM:
The E! News reporter Giuliana just asked Nicolette Sheridan what her favorite body part is. Wow. What brilliance

7:15 PM: Remember when everyone watched DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES and it was the biggest show on TV? Apparently Ryan still thinks it is, the way he is gushing over the (not nominated) Eva Longoria.

7:30 PM: Is it just me or is this duller than in previous years? I just found myself on Youtube. Then I got a call to flip over to Jimmy Kimmel's ABC pre-show, where Tracy Morgan was trashing the set of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER with a baseball bat. NPH restrained him saying "I love you on THE OFFICE". Funny stuff.

7:35 PM: Tom Hanks has arrived. He produced JOHN ADAMS.

7:48 PM: Jimmy Kimmel is interviewing Salma Hayek. I don't know what to think about this, or Kimmel for that matter. They are now singing. I just don't know.

7:53 PM:
Barack Obama is now talking about the bailout, and is saying we could be in a recession. Oh wait, I'm on the wrong channel and liveblogging 60 MINUTES. Although this is a lot more interesting than the Emmys.

8:00 PM: Opening with stars delivering lines made famous by others. Too short.

8:03 PM: Oprah is talking about reading. Maybe I should be reading. I just got Thomas Friedman's HOT, FLAT, AND CROWDED. Very interesting book.

8:04 PM:
Heidi Klum is the tallest of all the hosts.

8:06 PM: Howie Mandel "We are on Sarah Palin's Bridge to Nowhere".

8:10 PM: I like Jeremy Piven as much as the next guy (which reminds me I have to set the Tivo for ENTOURAGE tonight) but c'mon. NPH or Rainn Wilson deserve it more.

8:16 PM: Now they are doing a SEINFELD tribute, just to introduce Julia Louis Dreyfus. She gives an Emmy for Best Supporting Actress to Jean Smart for SAMANTHA WHO. Good choice.

8:28 PM: "The cast of DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES wasn't nominated, so since ABC is hosting the awards, let's bring them on anyway and remind everyone of this dying franchise!" And the winner of this category, best supporting actor in a drama, is someone I've never heard of or seen before. Some guy from DAMAGES, a show I've never seen.

8:31 PM:
I love Ricky Gervais. "I made you what you are. Did you see GHOST TOWN? I sat through EVAN ALMIGHTY."

8:42 PM: Can we all agree that this past years was a pretty terrible year for TV?

8:44 PM:
Two former Neutrogena spokesmodels present together, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Hayden Panettiere. They give an award to THE COLBERT REPORT. Sorry, as much as I tried, I just can't get into this show. THE DAILY SHOW is much funnier.

8:57 PM: Steve Martin gives a lifetime award to Tommy Smothers. I think Tommy wanted to make a political statement, but decided not to.

9:02 PM:
Josh Groban singing TV themes? Was every other singer busy tonight? And will they include CHARLES IN CHARGE? No.

9:09 PM: Was half asleep, but did Laura Linney just make a political comment? Finally.

9:16 PM: Good to see the cast of LAUGH IN.

9:22 PM:
Barry Sonnenfeld beats out Toby from THE OFFICE for a directing Emmy. I didn't even Toby was nominated! "Love TV and fear the internet." David Boreanz doesn't look happy to be having to present with LC.

9:35 PM: Christina Applegate!!! Like I've mentioned here before, I was never a MARRIED WITH CHILDREN fan, but she is so good on SAMANTHA WHO that she makes me want to watch it again. She gives the award to RECOUNT, which deserves it. One of the year's best films, including theatrical releases.

9:21 PM: Jay Roach wins for directing RECOUNT. If you noticed, his wife is Susanna Hoffs of The Bangles.

9:57 PM: Don Rickles and Kathy Griffin give the Reality Show Award to The Amazing Race! Still undefeated!!! And deserves to win each year. It returns next week.

10:01 PM: A reunion of the cast of PUNCHLINE (HA! I completely forgot FORREST GUMP) as Sally Field gives an award to Tom Hanks for JOHN ADAMS.

10:09 PM: Don Rickles gets an Emmy for a documentary about himself? MR WARMTH was a great film, but really? Love the guy though so I'm not complaining.

10:21 PM:
I'm still here. Haven't fallen asleep.

10:24 PM:
Paul Giamatti wins for JOHN ADAMS. I have the DVD set of this by my TV, and have yet to watch it.

10:28 PM: Alec Baldwin wins for 30 ROCK and Glenn Close for DAMAGES.

10:38 PM:
Bryan Cranston wins for BREAKING BAD, another show I have never seen.

10:41 PM:
Best Actress in a Comedy goes to Tina Fey. Love Tina, but Christina Applegate deserved it more.

10:51 PM: Ok, I know this isn't over, but I can't stay awake (or even care about who wins the rest of the awards). I'm signing off.

Thanks for stopping by. I'll see you for the Oscars! Hopefully that will be more interesting.

It's always fun when a Smothers provides political commentary! I wonder if Kelsey Grammar was ready to jump on stage and debate!

I just can't handle most awards shows anymore, so I didn't watch. I was hoping Kyra Sedgwick would win-I love "The Closer." I agree with you about Christina-she really is terrific on "Samantha Who?" I love Tina, but don't really think she deserved another acting Emmy this year.
That's awesome about Jean Smart! I love her & felt she should have won for her great performance on "24" a season or two ago.
