Theatrical Releases For 8-15-08

Quite a few films opening this weekend, which is a bit of a surprise as August is usually fairly slow.

TROPIC THUNDER arrived in theatres this Wednesday. Reviews for that have been very good. Will that overtake THE DARK KNIGHT?

Here are the other films.

MIRRORS - Kiefer Sutherland, Amy Smart and Paula Patton (who was very good in SWING VOTE) in a horror film about, I guess, mirrors?

HENRY POOLE IS HERE
- Luke Wilson sees a stain on the side of his house that may be a sign from God. Also stars Radha Mitchell (of Forgotten Film entry LOVE AND OTHER CATASTROPHES fame), Cheryl Hines, and George Lopez.

VICKY CRISTINA BARCELONA - Yet another attempt by Woody Allen to revive his career. Once again, he casts Scarlett Johansson (who hasn't helped with her last few appearances) as well as Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz. As much as I used to love Woody, it has been 15 years since I last even liked a Woody Allen film, almost 20 years since his last great film. Why do I even bother anymore? I'll probably still see this though.

STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS - Suppose George Lucas made a STAR WARS film and no one cared? I guess we will see this weekend. Not only have the reviews for this animated film been weak, I really don't see who would even care about it. I've seen all the previous films since EMPIRE opening day, and this is probably last on my list of new films I want to see this weekend.
