DVD Releases for 9-2-08

Here are the new releases for Tuesday September 2, 2008.

A big week for TV on DVD.

And don’t forget, QUARK is being released this week as an Amazon only special.

DVD OF THE WEEK

THE OFFICE SEASON 4 – As critically accliamed shows continue, you will always hear grumblings that “it isn’t as good as it used to be”. You heard the same about THE OFFICE this season. Sorry, but I think it has been as good as ever. Still the best show on TV.

THE BIG BANG THEORY : SEASON 1
– From the beginning, I loved this show about two geeks who befriend an attractive female neighbor, even though many critics didn’t care for it. By the end of the season, it had become a critical darling as well. Many calling it one of the few “classic” sitcoms of the season, something I had been saying all along.

THE PROMOTION – Barely released comedy (even though the cast made the talk show rounds promoting it) starring John C. Reilly and Seann William Scott as rivals for a promotion at a grocery story. Also with Jenna Fischer and Lili Taylor.

OUTSOURCED – Josh Hamilton (of Noah Baumbach’s KICKING AND SCREAMING) is outsourced to India. This film got some very good reviews even though it also received a very limited release.

THEN SHE FOUND ME – Helen Hunt directs and stars in this film also starring Matthew Broderick, Colin Firth and Bette Midler.

MARRIED LIFE
– Stars Pierce Brosnan and Rachel McAdams.

BALLET SHOES – BBC film with Emma Watson, Hermione from HARRY POTTER.

BAIT SHOP – Southern comedy with Bill Engvall and Billy Ray Cyrus.

BRIGHT LIGHTS, BIG CITY – The Michael J. Fox adaptation of the Jay McInerney novel is finally given a proper widescreen release. Does anyone else sometimes get obsessed with the book? Not the story, but the fact that it was written in the second person ("You"). After reading it, and whenever I think about it, I start thinking like it. "You have to stop writing about this DVD. You have to finish this list. You have made your point, it is time for you to move on."

LIVING WITH ED SEASON 2 – I’ve kind of gotten hooked on this reality show, airing on the Green network, about Ed Begley Jr and his wife. It is entertaining as well as informative. It makes you want to live a green lifestyle as well.

TV SHOWS ON DVD

Just the dinner party episode with Michael and Jan was amazing. This actually may have been one of their best seasons so far.

THE BIG BANG THEORY has grown on me- the playing is a little broad, but it's quite well written.
