A few days ago, I mentioned film critic Bill Harris. He hosted AT THE MOVIES in the late 80's (after Siskel and Ebert left) with Rex Reed. He also hosted the show with Dixie Whatley.
Before that, he used to introduce the movies and do interviews on Showtime.
With his mustache, and his "I'm Bill Harris, we'll talk again!" sign off, he was a very memorable host. He wasn't so much a film critic as he was a film fan. Closer to a Richard Roeper than a Roger Ebert.
Since AT THE MOVIES, I haven't seen him much.
So, what ever happened to him?
I hate to say it, but I don't have an answer. There is literally nothing about him out there.
There are several Bill Harris listings on wikipedia, but none for him.
On his IMDB listing, he has several credits for working on episodes of A&E's BIOGRAPHY, but I don't know if that is really him. I found a photo of a Bill Harris who works for A&E but I don't think it is the same one. I mean, he might have shaved his mustache over the years, but I don't believe he became an African-American.
I couldn't even find a photo. Other than the above YouTube clips, this is the closest I have to a photo of him.
So, I'm sorry to say, but I don't have an answer. If anyone has any details, let me know.

Bill Harris is alive and well in Hollywood. He hosted a syndicated radio show (airing primarily in the midwest) for a number of years and also had a Q&A column in the National Enquirer for awhile. He makes an occasional appearance on various cruise lines with presentations of his celebrity interviews over the years. And he still has that signature mustache...
I saw him officiate a wedding last night in LB - he was wonderful and funny and doing well - it took me back to my childhood/mid teen days
Just saw Bill tonight in Laguna Beach. He was the host for a new series and his guest was Suzi Chauvel. It was wonderful, he did a great job and the 'Artist's Studio' was filled with Laguna locals, all fans. Suzi Chauvel's art is unique and fabulous and she is a doll.
Bill still has his mustache and his sense of humor.
Bill is one of the nicest entertainment people I've ever met. He's very much alive, well and prospering in LA as well as Laguna Beach. A funny, kind, terrific man.
I've been a neighbor for years, didn't know he was missing. Saw him in trader joe's and we clogged the frozen food aisle talking. One of the all time best guys ever.
Great to hear all the good things on Bill. Give him my best if you ever see him.
Bill contacted redpropellers.com a week ago to inquire about doing some keynoting. We are looking forward to having him try the "circuit". Bill
Bill has a LONG history in Hollywood. I worked with Bill in the early 70's and yes, he had his 'stash' and glasses then too - his trademark through the years. Bill and I worked together on the Ralph Story & Stephanie Edwards AM LA daily TV show on the ABC local affiliate KABC. Bill was full of talent then and ya knew he would keep going. Back then, we had the time slot (and format) that was later bought out by Good Morning America. Bill did everything the production team needed, from helping to write script to running around as a go for to pick up Ms. Edwards outfit for the next day if that is what needed being done. He was quick on his feet then and a talented writer. I thought also in trying to track him that he got involved with the Graystone TV Production team of Craig Hafner and Donna Lusiftania (sp???). Bill would have know Craig as Craig was in charge of the news section for KABC for a few years before Craig moved on to KABC programming. There were a lot of folks from those news days at KABC that ended up working at least for a time with Graystone who has produced all those great Graystone productions we have seen for years on the History Channel, A&E and other channels. It would be wonderful if Bill would pop in here to at least check in and say hi! There are many of us who remember him 'when' and watched him go!
I met Bill Harris In New Orleans at Mardi Gras Feb 1995. I kissed him on the street and it was one of the best kisses ever. It was a fantasy come true. Glad he is alive and well and in Long Beach doing Gay Weddings...Let him know Robertangelo Coppola still remembers that kiss...
