DVD RELEASES FOR 1-22-08

Here are the DVDs being released on Tuesday January 22, 2008

THE GAME PLAN – The Rock in a sort of remake of BABY BOOM.

SAW IV – The latest in the horror franchise that I have yet to see a single installment of. Although, I may actually see this eventually as it marked the return to the screen of “What Ever Happened To” subject Betsy Russell.

SYDNEY WHITE – Amanda Bynes in a reworking of the Snow White story, set on a college campus.

THE HUNTING PARTY – Richard Gere as a journalist in an acclaimed film from last year. I had planned on seeing it theatrically, but it only played for a week.

SAVED FROM THE FLAMES: 54 Rare and Restored Films 1896 – 1944 – 3 DVD set.

ADRIFT IN MANHATTAN – Never heard of this Heather Graham and Billy Baldwin film. But it is being released this week.

THIS SPORTING LIFE – Criterion release of the Richard Harris film.

SEX AND BREAKFAST – Are you ready to feel old? Macauley Culkin stars in this film about couple’s therapy!! Also starring Eliza Dushku.

BLONDE AMBITION – Jessica Simpson’s film with Luke Wilson that opened in a few theatres not too long ago and is now direct to video.

4 by Agnès Varda (La Pointe Courte, Cléo from 5 to 7, Le bonheur, Vagabond) – Criterion release

MISS JULIE – Criterion release of the Swedish film from 1950

THE KINGDOM – The Lars Von Trier miniseries, arguable the best thing he has ever done. Think of it as ER meets TWIN PEAKS, about a haunted hospital. Both seasons are available in a two pack. Udo Kier has never been creepier (which is saying something)

TV ON DVD

TORCHWOOD SEASON 1, MASTERPIECE THEATRE: NORTHANGER ABBEY, BARNEY MILLER SEASON SEASON 2, HAWAII FIVE O SEASON 2, THE GIRLS NEXT DOOR SEASON 3, THE ODD COUPLE SEASON 3, ER SEASON 8, BANACEK SEASON 2, THE SIMPLE LIFE GOES TO CAMP SEASON 5, THE HUSTLE SEASON 4, MAKE ROOM FOR DADDY SEASON 6, SWAMP THING THE SERIES

You can vote for which DVD will be the biggest of the week over at Voxpop.tv. Or, you can buy them at Amazon.

Hmm, I usually enjoy Lars von Trier's work very much. I don't remember if I've heard of The Kingdom or not. Either way, I'm definitely interested.

Oh, and the only thing I've heard about Adrift in Manhattan is that Heather Graham gets naked -- but what else is new?
