When is someone officially an actor, and when are they just a person who has appeared in a few films?
Lucinda Dickey may fit into the latter category. She only made five films, and only four of them featured any acting.
She was primarily a dancer. She is said to have been a dancer on SOLID GOLD, so briefly that fans of the show don’t even remember her. But, even when she moved on to films, she never really stopped dancing.
Her first film appearance was one I wasn’t even aware of before writing this. I had seen her well over 100 times, yet never knew it was her.
Yes, that is her in the front (I believe). She was a dancer, and background player in GREASE 2. She can be seen in several sequences.
Then, she was essentially adopted by Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus and the Cannon Group, appearing in three of their films.

First, there was BREAKIN, where she played the rich girl, jazz dancer, who teams up with the great breakdancers, Adolpho “Shabba-Doo” Quinones and Michael “Boogaloo Shrimp” Chambers (the greatest name in film history!!), for a big dance competition. How can you not love this movie?
Interesting note, her boyfriend in BREAKIN was played by Christopher McDonald, Goose from GREASE 2. (The screengrab above is of them both in GREASE 2. Bet they didn't know they were about to make BREAKIN together.)

So confident were the filmmakers in the success of the first BREAKIN film, it ends with an ad for the sequel, BREAKIN 2: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO. The gang is back, and this time, they team up to save a community center. Like GODFATHER 2, this is better than the original. A must see film, if only for the big dance down the street scene, where everyone they pass ends up joining in.
She didn’t dance in NINJA 3, a rare sequel that makes you wonder “There were NINJA’s 1 & 2?”. In certain circles, NINJA 3 was even more popular than the BREAKIN films. Not for me, though. The BREAKIN films are her masterpieces.
She would co-star in CHEERLEADER CAMP with Betsy Russell, who also didn’t make it out of the 80’s. Lucinda used her dancing in that film, acting as choreographer.
The IMDB lists an uncredited role in a PERRY MASON TV movie a few years later. Not having seen it, I don’t know if that is accurate. Why would she go from starring in popular films to uncredited roles in TV movies?
And, that was it.
So, what ever happened to her?
She ended up marrying one of her CHEERLEADER CAMP co-stars. He didn’t stay an actor for long (and no other acting credits are on his filmography). He would go on to become a reality TV producer, co-executive producing a little TV show called SURVIVOR.
Yes, the girl from BREAKIN is now married to one of the producers of SURVIVOR!! He also created and is one of the producers of AMERICAN CHOPPER! Also, very cool.
Was Lucinda a great actress who, if she continued, would have been one of the major actresses of today? Probably not. From her film choices, it is clear that dancing was the most important thing to her. The films may just have been the best ways to express that.
While there haven’t been any known sighting in recent years, it looks like she is just happy being a wife and mom.
Maybe she can team up with Boogaloo Shrimp and Shabba-Doo for a reunion film one of these days.
(EDIT 6-17-08): Apparently Lucinda Dickey is back!!
As mentioned in the comment section, she appears as a guest judge on the new TLC series MASTER OF DANCE.
From TLC's website:
In addition to Lawrence offering guidance, a panel of judges will critique the performers as well: Lucinda Dickey has been dancing since the age of 4, and studied with the prestigious Roland DuPree Dance Academy. She has appeared onstage and on-screen as a dancer in hits like Solid Gold, Breakin' and Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo.I will have to tune in. It airs Monday nights.

Are you just looking for excuses to write about Grease 2?
Do you even need excuses to write about GREASE 2?
It is GREASE 2!!!
And the 25th anniversary of its release is in a few weeks. Do you think enough people would be interested in a blogathon?
I Knew Lucinda when she was living in England from 2002-2005.
She was seperated from her husband then and only moved back to the states in late 2005.
Lucinda was a pro dancer and initially accepted her movie roles with this in mind but later regretted she did not expand her career with more serious roles.
Whether she could have pulled this off is somewhat dubious as most opinions point to her abilities as a dancer as opposed to an actress.
I thought she was the best looking girl ever back when Breakin came out. I was a sophmore in high school then and well, I am a bit older now and I bet she is still the best looking girl around!! :)
I agree with the anonymous comment. Lucinda was HOT! She had a smokin' body. I especially loved her in the jazz routine scenes in the Breakin' movies where she had those high-cut leotards - amazing legs!!
Just saw her this evening as a judge on a new TLC show, "Master of Dance". She still looks great!
lucinda did appear in a perry mason movie is was called the case of the defiant daughter i have seen it although she is in it for less than 2 minutes.also as far as lucinda living in england from 2002 till 2005 as much as i would like to believe this was true i happen to know that it isn`t on that you can trust i think someone may have been pulling your leg
Hello Lucinda! For the stage and party in Italy we are in contact,ok? By Adolfo as well...On alivenotdead you can find information about me...Bye,soon...
"Interesting note, her boyfriend in BREAKIN was played by Christopher McDonald, Goose from GREASE 2."
Christopher McDonald played James.. her AGENT.. not her boyfriend... She even says to Ozone that hes just her agent..
Am I daft, merely approaching 40, or do most of these B-movie actresses from the '80s (Lucinda Dickey, Betsy Russell, et al.) seem more alluring today than they did in 1984? Comeback indeed.
I love this series, Moviezzz.
Lucinda Dickey was absolutely sexy as hell in "Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo". Now and then, I still pop in the soundtrack to the movie. She is still a very smokin' woman now and I hope she is happy with her life, being a wife and mother. Oh, how I do miss the 80's and the power that was Transformers, can only wish for a time machine.
She is currently in the process of having a home remodeled here in Kansas, where her family is originally from. I don't think that it is or will be a permanent residence especially if her husband is still doing the tv shows. Kind of a strange connection- the host of survivor is also from Kansas and only a few minutes from Lucindas home town.
I think Lucinda looks even more sexy now. She's a smokin' hot W O M A N. Nice TLC pic. She has a glow about her. She looks happy & I hope she is with her life. I agree she was FIIINE too on the Breakin' movies. Take care L!!
thank you so much for taking the time to write about Lucinda. i really enjoyed all her roles, i agree that Breakin' 2 was her best. Every time Grease 2 is on i focus on her, she seems to be one of the better dancers. i'd love to see her again, she has definitely aged well!
I just watched the movie "breakin" with Lucinda Dickey in it and she is a really great dancer and very hot. I think she could have also been great at acting as well but she was more focused on her dancing. Was the guy who played "Ozone" in the movie "Breakin" wasn't he also on off-screen boyfriend in real life as well? I thought it was because it was rumored that she was dating this guy for a while though. Lucinda still holds her age well being in her 50s. Great dancer and would be a great actor.
yeah, im also watching breakin' now lol! how i miss these guys, specially this female jazz switched-to pop-lock dancer! i really hope they do a breakin' 3 hehehe
hhhmmmm makes me wonder how'd they look like dancing now after 25 years!!
